A lovely house offered by a very friendly and helpful owner, Cathy. On arrival we were made very welcome. The house is in a great location on a hill overlooking Rothbury and the Croquet valley. The hill is steep but we enjoyed the exercise and was not an issue. For us, the location was perfect with walks from the door up on the 'Terraces' and a short walk into town. There is also a lot of places to visit a short drive away, such as Simonside, Cragside and The Cheviots as well as the coast. The house is also very dog friendly, we just needed to keep an eye out for Cathy's cats! We would definitely recommend.

Cathy is an excellent, friendly host and provided a welcome pack of bread, croissants, milk and jam. The Croft is a very spacious, traditional cottage with two modern bathrooms and a downstairs loo. The views from the terrace looking south are superb with Rothbury down below and Simonstone in the distance. We recommend the walk to the summit of Simonstone, on the way viewing cup and ring engravings on the sandstone rocks. The moorland above Rothbury to the north has some excellent paths with good views to the Cheviot Hills. National Trust properties at Cragside and Wallington are both excellent. Alnmouth is a lovely village on the coast and great for a walk along the beach. In Rothbury there is one small supermarket (Co-op) which provides most commodities including newspapers. There are other specialist shops including bakeries and a butcher. The Narrow Nick pub (named after the footpath between it and the Co-op) serves good beer. We had a great week.

Our second visit, and would happily go again. Gorgeous cottage, many small delights, as well as large ones! (marmelade highly recommended!). Views to die for. Charming and welcoming landlady next door.
