The Setting / Immediate Area
The heart of Uzumlu is the Village Square which gives you a unique insight into true rural Turkey. Contained within and around, you will find a variety of shops, restaurants and bars each with its own special ambiance. The gems we have found would have to include:-

The Bakery – the smell of wood fired ovens mixed with fresh bread, hails from another era.

The Street Market – every Friday in Uzumlu stalls bursting with fresh local produce and every pot/pan/tool you can imagine.

Gents Barbers – Make sure you don’t leave Turkey without experiencing haircut and wet shave, head, neck and arm massage, finished off with lemon oil – you’ll float out of the shop!

Local Weavers – You can walk in and watch production by traditional methods. A range of clothes and linens can be purchased at extremely reasonable prices – truly fascinating.

The Café in the Square – Have breakfast in the shade and perhaps give a thought to what to do today – or not as the case may be.

A great selection of restaurants and bars are dotted in and around the village serving excellent cuisine at very reasonable costs. All have their own charm for you to discover.

Uzumlu is a wonderful place to meyander and take in the sights and sounds. The variety of produce grown – grapes, olives, pomegranates, peach, figs, walnuts – the list is endless. The livestock present alongside wild tortoise, Jay’s and a host of other bird life add to the experience.

Various walks up into the surrounding hills and mountains will reward you with magnificent views down the valley, as well as other points of interest along the way.

If you wish to explore further afield and take in more of what the area has the ‘Dolmus’ (local bus) provides a cheap and regular service into Fethiye. It is from here you can strike out in any direction to the numerous points of interest mentioned plus more.

The satisfaction comes from knowing that at the end of the day, you can return to Villa Carlette in Uzumlu, swim, take a shower, relax with a drink on the spacious upstairs balcony and watch the sun set over the mountains.

How and why did we choose Uzumlu you might ask!
Fate and excellent support from people we have come to cherish as friends in England and Turkiye is how.
To experience just a part of what is on offer in Uzumlu served with friendliness and hospitality of the Turkish people, finished off with a nightcap under a star filled sky was the why and the icing on the cake.

Attractions nearby
The nearest town is Fethiye which has all the attractions of the Mediterranean – the blue of the Med is legendary, but until it is actually seen first hand, the words are meaningless.

The Harbour and Marina is boarded by palm tree promenades with ample bars and restaurants to choose from to dine or to sit with a glass of your favourite drink and take in the magnificent views and watch the world go by.

‘The Paspatur’ which is the old part of Fethiye is lined with bars and restaurants offering excellent local and international cuisine. Not to mention the fresh fish market which is surrounded with restaurants and are at hand to cook the fish of your choice from the fish stalls. There is a maze of streets filled with shops offering the most wonderful treasure – ‘A shopper’s paradise’. The town is so alive in the evening it will be hard to take your self away from it.

You will also find a large market on the edge of the town every Tuesday, which is well recommended as you will find lots of interesting things to buy (this is also a time to try your bartering, where the locals are happy to do so) After you have been round the market stalls, try one of their fresh fruit drinks and delicious homemade pancakes in the little undercover cafes, the people are so friendly – it’s a treat.

There are several small quite secluded beautiful beaches at the far end of Fethiye, where the locals tend to spend their weekends.

Also not to be missed is the 12 Island Cruise from the promenade, where you will find a variety of boats to choose from.

A little further along the coast is Oludeniz – a designated National Park. Its beaches sweep along for 3km into the world famous ‘Blue Lagoon’ with crystal clear waters. This area is perfect for the more energetic who like to indulge in water sports such as sailing, scuba diving, water rafting, or you can just sit in one the cafes on the seafront and watch the paragliders land on the beach from the mountains around you. It is just paradise. You will also find here recently finished, the Cable Car facility taking you to the summit of Babadag - not to be missed!

Near to Oludeniz is a much livelier place called Hisaronu. It is filled with shops galore, restaurants, late night bars and discos – particularly good for the young at heart.

Calis beach is about 15 mins drive from Villa Carlette and is famous for its stunning sunsets. The shingle beach sweeps round to a finer shingle beach where you can indulge in more water sports – this area is a new development and is very pretty.

You can take a stroll along the promenade, dine in one of the many restaurants, take in the sunset and enjoy the lashing sound of the sea. There are numerous shops, bars and restaurants in the centre and down the side streets you will find little treasures. The night life is excellent here, some of the bars have little shows and you can dance the night away – it really is well worth the visit especially in the evening.

A water taxi service under the little bridge to the rear of the promenade takes you to Fethiye, a better way of travelling rather than a taxi. Yet again there is an excellent market held on the outskirts of the town every week.

Dalyan is a little further to travel, but well worth the trip. Here it is possible to take a boat ride to view the natural local attractions, either sharing a boat or private hire with own captain – the latter giving more freedom.

The vast area of reed beds – home to many turtles lead the way to a beautiful lagoon to the rear of Turtle Beach where fresh caught crab is served from a boat and a chance to swim perhaps. A relaxing journey back through the reed beds up the Dalyan River to the vast lakes, taking in the breathtaking scenery overlooked by ancient Lycian Tombs carved into the mountain sides. Upon reaching the lake, another chance to swim in the warm fresh water or take further refreshment. The trip continues onto the mud bath area, the commercial site is good but the small site we visited with our Captain was better as it was a natural mud bath. After the mud bath experience the return to the quay at Dalyan enabled us to choose yet again from one of the many excellent restaurants. Truly a memorable day out in an un spoilt area.

There are so many worthwhile sites to visit within a days travel – too many to cover here, but amongst the best must be:-
Saklikent Gorge, Tloss (Roman /ruins), Pumakale and Pattara Beach, Kas & Kalkan.

Turkey really is a land of many treasures waiting for you to discover.

After travelling through beautiful rural Turkey, we spent the last 10 days in Villa Carlette. Although not directly near Fethiye, which for us was a pleasant circumstance, the villa is situated in a beautiful surrounding. The valley, in which Uzumly lies, felt like coming home for us.

Lenette was so kind to accept for us to arrive a day earlier then booked. The villa is truelly a haven of comfort and 'chill time'. The villa is fully equipped, it has everything you need for a longer stay.

Our kids enjoyed the large pool very much, which was a necessity in the warm and stable climate.

We highly recommend the villa and are sure to once visit the villa again some time.

This property is superb and I would highly recommend staying here. The facilities and equipment in the villa are excellent. I stayed with my husband and 3 children - 21, 16, 12 - we had lots of space and enjoyed using the variety of seating areas outside. We had a brilliant holiday- Lenette helped with transfers, car hire and made excellent recommendations for restaurants and days out. The location of the Villa was also perfect for us - within walking distance of a traditional Turkish Village with lovely restaurants and small shops, a short car journey to the beach and local busier town. I cannot thank Lenette enough!

We have been holidaying in Turkey since 2003 and mostly been fortunate enough to rent private villas in the area. Despite not ever using 'Clickstay' the booking process was extremely user friendly, simple and secure. We found Lennette's communication to be faultless pre-booking, during and after. The villa is beautiful, extremely clean and very well equipped and we can say without hesitation that it is the best we have experienced in all our years visiting Turkey. Uzumlu is uniquely situated giving you access to the tranquillity of a typical friendly Turkish village with woodland walks, calm cafes and quality restaurants within easy walking distance whilst remaining accessible to the vibrant centres of Fethyie and Olu Deniz. We have no hesitation in recommending Clickstay and Villa Carlette.

We travelled as a 3 generation family, aged between 10 & 79, and all loved our stay. The villa was spotlessly clean and very equipped, you can feel it is loved - a home from home (except far more stylish than ours!).

The village is charming and the locals friendly. We bought bread fresh from the baker every day, enjoyed with the most delicious tomatoes, hummus and jam (not at the same time), both homemade by the local shopkeeper's wife. We ate out every evening, sometimes at local places (these seem to close quite early), sometimes more tourist oriented fare. All were delicious.

If you are looking for a change of pace and a little more rural, this lovely villa and village is likely to hit the spot!

Just wanted to say we had a lovely time. Your villa was fantastic and suited us all really well. The villa was very well equiped and tastefully decorated throughout with a really beautiful outside space. You had thought of everything right down to the little details like current magazines and the first aid kit under the sink. We loved the Turkish style outside seated area and the pool was very refreshing and a good size. Everything was in good condition and also very clean. We loved the village and found the locals welcoming. The local restaurants were fantastic and also really good value. Ahmet was very helpful and if we had any questions got back to us quickly. He also arranged our tranfers and rental car and we were impressed with this. Fethiye was lovely and we found lots of interesting things to do in the surrounding areas. All in all a lovely holiday.

We visited Villa Carlette first week of June 2013 – our first holiday in Turkey. We have stayed in many villas over the years, but Villa Carlette is the cleanest and most comfortable villa we have ever stayed in. Very spacious and modern, with everything you will need to make your holiday comfortable. The outside area is great, loads of space, and very clean - multiple sun beds and chairs. The private pool is fab, just the right size for a cooling dip, and makes you feel that you are doing some sort of exercise ! The area itself is extremely relaxing, very quiet and the village of Uzumlu has everything you need. Not many restaurants or bars, but enough to give you variety throughout your holiday. Uzumlu is situated up a mountain, surrounded by mountains and the surrounding area is very beautiful. We hired a car at the airport, and found this really useful to visit the surrounding area, Fethiye is about 20 mins down the road. Thank you Carl and Lenette for letting us stay in your gorgeous villa – I’ve recommended it to friends and family. Caroline - Kent - 2013

First time in Turkey. After a long internet search for a quiet place away from the main tourist resorts, I found Villa Carlettte. I am so glad. It has been lovely, love the villa and the pool and would go again. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a peaceful place to chill out. thank you. This was our 1st time in Turkey and it was truly amazing!! We have spent 10 wonderful days here and certainly feel we have made the most of it. We hired a boat for the afternoon, visited Patara Beach, oludeniz. Visited the local markets and ate at most of the restaurants in Uzumlu which are great and the night life in Fethiye is brilliant. The villa and the pool were everything we needed, we found it very easy to relax here and would like to thank Carl and Lenette for allowing us to stay here...we will be back! Already re-booked for next year in September 2011. Keith & Donna - Cornwall - September 2010

We had a wonderful time here at Villa Carlette. What a lovely village and relaxing environment, not to mention a beautiful home. You have been very accomodating of us and Tina and Mustafa have been very helpful during our time here. Thank you to all of your! The woods Family - New Zealand September 2010

Our first time in Turkey and so glad we spent our first week in Villa Carlette! When I saw the villa on the internet, I thought that it would not live up to its picture and description, as so many times that happens with marketing, but it was even more than I expected. The place is serene and peaceful. The villa felt like home from home – it had everything we needed. Tina, the manager was the most incredible person. She was so kind, caring and helpful. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity of a piece of heaven on earth. Our stay was most definitely memorable. We will never forget our stay here at Villa Carlette and look forward to another visit soon. Pamela, Waleed, Ahmed, Asiha & Amani - Kuwait July 2010

Everything we did was fabulous, every place we visited was amazing, everyone we came in contact with were so friendly and helpful. Thank you Lenette and Carl for a wonderful week in your villa. Michael & Pauline Newton – Sheffield 26.03.10

Great to be back!! The perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun. As before we loved the laid back village life, the chance to explore and refresh our memories of this wonderful place. What is great to see is the ongoing development of Villa Carlette – it’s maturing plants and how it is settling into it’s surroundings – we love it! We also experienced the Dolmus (local minibus service) – Great fun! ThanksDawn & Steve Totty - Ravenscarr

Where do you start! Villa/everything clean and beautiful and all furnishing are lovely, then you look out of the windows and see the wonderful views. The village is so natural and charming. The food is wonderful, our favourite was the Wine House and the Grape Garden. Visited Calis beach and spent a day at Oludeniz, loved the beach and sea, but always looked forward to coming back to the villa to chill out around the pool. We are looking forward to coming back and doing a little more sightseeing. Thanks again for letting us use your home for our holiday.Bev & Chris Pickering – Worksop

Arrived at the villa at 5.30 in the morning, when daylight came the views of the mountains were amazing. The villa is a lovely place to stay. Had a very relaxing week! The village is very unspoilt and the locals make you feel welcome. Managed to visit Fethiye and Oludeniz , but stayed most of the time around the villa. I now feel completely chilled out and relaxed. I would definitely like to come back.April – Worksop

Thanks ever so much for the hire of your villa, it’s been very relaxing, a lovely place. The village is very charming and traditional, the locals couldn’t do enough for us. The scenery is also quite amazing. Thanks ever so muchDave Hopkinson – Sheffield

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful villa, it really is a piece of heaven!! We were made to feel very welcome by the villagers and the surrounding villa owners. Whilst eating out in Uzumlu, we found two great places to eat – The Grape Garden and the Wine House – Great food and very good company. ThanksLyn Hopkinson – Sheffield

This was our first visit to Turkey and immediately we both fell in love with the place, for Uzumlu is a very special and unique place. The scenery is unbelievable and the people so obliging, helpful and friendly. Villa Carlette is even more than we expected, being ideally located in the vicinity of Uzumlu village. During our stay we managed to visit Fethiye, Chalis and Oludeniz, all of which have their own magical character and charm. Turkey/Uzumlu is truly a delight!! Thanks Lenette and Carl for letting us use and enjoy your beautiful villa, and hope to have the opportunity to return in the not too distant future to this wonderful paradise.Kath & Bill Jackson - Sheffield

A fabulous villa with a perfect size swimming pool, everything was clean and beautifully presented on arrival. The support from the locals was second to none and we felt very welcome. Set in the mountains the views were spectacular and it was an idilic haven away from the mahem of life. A car was necessary to go further afield but was easy to arrange, costing about twenty-twenty five pounds a day. The bonus to this was that we could drive to the beaches and into the nightlife when we wanted but escape to the quiet and cooler solitude of Uzumlu - a little piece of heaven and very different from what we know in the West, and we loved it. “Steven and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Villa Carlette. The villa is fabulous and set in an absolutely stunning location with 360 degree views of the mountains and all the facilities you could wish for in your home for the duration of your holiday. The short walk into the village is a unique experience in itself with free gifts of “in season” produced often generously offered from the wonderful people. Definately somewhere we intend to visit again” Steven & Dawn Totty (Ravenscarr)“We have just returned from the most restful weeks holiday we have ever had. What a fantastic setting, the Villa Carlette is nestled at the foot of the mountains and set in totally peaceful and tranquil surroundings, beneath magnificent, clear blue skies. The wonderful mountain views on all 4 sides makes this place like not where else, just a short 5 minute walk into a real traditional Turkish village, Uzumlu, where we were able to get everything we needed at incredibly low prices and seek out some great eating places too. Then less than 30 minutes down the road is the lively and vibrant town of Fethiye if you do need a break from the relaxation”. “The villa itself is a very spacious and modern design, beautifully finished off, well equipped with every modern convenience. Someone has gone to incredible trouble with this place to make it a real comfortable home from home. Just when you think it can’t get any better, the villa has a great private pool just right for cooling you down after a hard days resting on the terraces. This is the real Turkey, no tourists, no tacky souvenir shops, no hassle….but be warned. You might never want to go home!!” Ian & Jill Mosedale (Sheffield) “I would just like to say how much we enjoyed our Holiday in Uzumlu. The villa is everything you could ask for and very well equipped. The pool is lovely and the patio areas are great for sunbathing. We enjoyed our walks around the village and found the locals very friendly and most helpful. A trip on the Dolmus into Fethiye is quite an experience! Not to be missed a ’12 island’ Cruise from Fethiye where the views are stunning. I could go on and on, but suffice to say we will hopefully be retuning in the future and can recommend Villa Carlette to anyone”.Irene and family (Workshop)“We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Carlette. The Villa is superbly appointed and is furnished to a very high standard, containing everything you could possibly need for a very pleasant holiday. The grounds are very spacious with and excellent swimming pool. Uzumlu itself is a charming village nestling in the mountains – very Turkish, and you tend to feel that the friendly residents live their lives in much the same way as they did a hundred years ago.- simple lives that they seem to relish. We thought of hiring a car for our stay, but in the end we decided to travel around using the local “Dolmus” busses. This turned out to be a good decision as they were regular, frequent and we could get to all of the surrounding places of interest with ease and very inexpensively. We can’t wait to go back”.Ray Turner & Family (Sheffield)

Like most people, we both lead very active lives, running a small printing business and caring for dementia patients, which takes up most of our time. Although we do try to take time out to spend quality time with our family, which we feel is very important. We all enjoy sporty activities and love to entertain, but most of all we love our family holidays in our villa in Uzumlu - this is where we can really chilll and enjoy each others company with family and friends.
