Detached 4 bed villa with private, infinity pool set in the the hills above Kalkan, Turkey. Air conditioned and beautifully appointed with views over Kalkan Bay.
Overview
Kalkan is the most beautiful Turkish fishing village which has not been too upset by the growth of tourism except for the increase in built villas. It is still very Turkish in appearance and feel.
Our villa is just on the town limits of Kalkan, near Akbel, situated on a hillside which means we enjoy the fantastic sea views, Patara Beach and into the mountains. It is in a very peaceful, rural area but only 5 minutes drive to Kalkan harbourside.
It was this peaceful setting and stunning views that made us fall in love with this villa which has just been remodelled and updated.
The villa has a VERY large infinity pool 7m x 4m and huge sun terrace with 6 cushioned sun loungers, 2 parasols and 2 pergola shaded areas. There is an outside dining table with chairs so that you are able to enjoy the views and the large swimming pool. Beach towels are available for use.
On the roof of the villa is a well appointed terrace where you can sit under the pergola on the daybed and enjoy the view. The barbeque is situated here so that you can barbeque your evening meal and sit at the marble topped wrought iron table enjoying the view and the stunning sunset over the sea and mountains.
The use of a car is strongly advisable and the villa has a well lit, private garage to park 2 cars to the front of the property. However, taxis are numerous and easily ordered using your mobile phone/whatsapp.
Facilities inside the villa
The villa has been furnished to a high standard.
The dining and living areas have a shaded verandah outside and all windows have insect screens attached.
The kitchen is fully fitted and comprises a full sized gas cooker, extra large fridge freezer, dish washer, automatic washing machine, microwave oven, 4 slice toaster, chilled water dispenser and more than enough cutlery and china to accommodate 7 people. The cooking equipment is limited but you can very easily prepare and cook breakfasts and simple lunches but it would be a challenge to cook a full roast dinner for example! - and who really wants to do that on holiday!
There is a dining area with an extendable dining table, 4 chairs and a bench to seat 3 people.
The living area comprises 2 large sofas, 4K smart TV, an iPod docking station/speakers. A coffee table and bookcase with a selection of books that guests can read or take home with them.
There are 2 large sliding patio doors and 1 French door in the living areas which give a wonderful cooling breeze. There are 2 electric fans which are usually enough to keep the heat down.
Verandah - There are 2 tables and chairs where you can sit for some 'p&q' or enjoy a drink and simply admire the views.
There is a toilet and shower room off the living room; adjacent to bedroom 4.
Master bedroom - This is a very large, air conditioned room comprising a KING sized bed with bedside cupboards, large walk-in wardrobe and safe, dressing table with hair dryer, smart TV, en suite jacuzzi bathroom comprising loo, basin, jacuzzi bath, a separate shower area, bathroom cupboard and mirror.
Bedroom 2 - is a large twin bedded, air conditioned room with a dressing table, wardrobe, fan and an en suite wet room (shower room) with loo and basin. There is a TV and dvd player (ideal for children who need some time out!)
Bedroom 3 - is a large twin bedded, air conditioned room with a dressing table, wardrobe fan and an en suite wet room (shower room) with loo and basin.
Bedroom 4 - comprises single bed, bedroom furniture and air conditioning unit. Dual aspect windows.
What to do and where to go
Kalkan is set against a picturesque harbourside. It boasts many small family run shops selling all sorts from clothes to leather goods to Ottoman china and glassware. Although the village depends on the tourist it is not really a commercial touristy place. Turkey is the home of designer goods all copies of course! However, there are very good copies available - e.g. Gucci, Mulberry, Chanel handbags or Armani, 501 and Hilfiger jeans. You do have to be quite discerning about the quality though!
There are a few businesses that organise day trips - to such places as Xanthos or Tlos- archeological ruins of towns (well worth visiting), or river walking up the Saklikent Gorge. The best trip is the boat trip to the sunken city Visit the protected beach at Patara - miles of almost white sand or use the village beach (small and pebbly). Across from this beach are several beach clubs/ water sports centres (who will collect you for free on their water launch) where you can jet ski, snorkel and water ski to name a few sports. Take a day trip to other beaches and hope to see turtles or for a mud bath. Go on a horse trekking day or rough terrain driving in jeeps.
Some local hotels hold Turkish evenings which are worth going to - experience the local culture. You can also get a Turkish bath and massage there.
Kalkan has a varied choice in cafes and restaurants. It is possible to have dinner for about £10.00pp rising to £30.00 per head. Try Turkish food - it is absolutely delicious - not at all curryish - simply tasty. Chicken casserole is always a good choice and it tastes quite different from different restaurants! The average charge per head in the summer of 2021 seemed to be about £15.00 (including drinks). Our cheapest meal was £7 pp including a drink. My favourite restaurant is Kalamaki - pricey but worth every Turkish Lira; visit Kalamaki if you have a special celebration whilst on holiday. Kosk restaurant comes a close 2nd to Kalamaki. Adam's restaurant is a fabulous Turkish restaurant 3km outside Kalkan. Phone him and he will come and pick you up / return you home for free.
Many restaurants also cater for the English palate - steak and chips and pizza.
The night life in Kalkan is quite sedate. The bars are frequented by both the tourist and the locals and tend to close when the last customer leaves. There is no rowdiness or drunkeness in Kalkan. In all Kalkan is the most lovely village offering the tourist a memorable holiday.

Enjoyed a good 2 weeks holiday here and will probably come again next year if possible.

Stayed at this villa before so knew what to expect, but it has been tidied up inside and out since last year - new fitted kitchen, paint and retiled pool. Good size pool, despite being unheated! Good outside space for sun lounging, peaceful and quiet at night. New property manager was only a few houses away and was very helpful when needed.
Overall we had a good stay.

the villa was situated in a beautiful spot with breathtaking views of the bay. The area was residential and we had great privacy.
It was spacious and clean and well equipped. it had everything down to the clothes pegs. We were delighted to be able to have a cup of tea when we arrived late from the airport. i would gladly stay there again. Our only complaiants were that the cooker was a bit dodgy and the double bed was not comfortable. Having said that we spent a most memorable time there.

We stayed at Villa Hibiscus for 9 nghts and enjoyed every one of them. The Villa is furnished very tastefully and is equiped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The views from the roof terrace are fabulous and it was lovely to sit watching the sun go down while enjoying a glass of wine. Kalkan itself is very pretty, and there are plenty of lovely rooftop restaurants and bars to give you a good choice of dining. Although it is'nt necessary to hire a car while staying at the villa, it is definitely an advantage as it is a good 20 to 25 minute walk into Kalkan. This is not too bad for an evening stroll, but not so good in the heat of the midday sun. We would definitely return to Villa Hibiscus for another holiday. The only thing that would improve the property would be a private pool for the sole use of the occupants instead of sharing with the neighbouring villa. A private pool would make it an ideal hideaway for people who want to get away from it all.

beautiful villa, high up above Kalkan , so catches the breeze , even on the hottest days.Only 10 mins from the village, around 15 from Patara beach, amd of course there,s a pool on site!! had a brilliant holiday, Kalkan itself is lovely, spoilt for choice for lovely restaurants, with the one notable exception being the IBO- DO NOT GO THERE!! Defnitely the worst meal in the town, but also one of the worst experiences we,ve all had in a long time!,Hibiscus Villa exceeded all our expectations, the owner cannot be more helpful, and we would have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

The villa is beautiful, set on the side of the mountain above Kalkan. You do need a car. The shared pool is fabulous for when it is too hot to go out during the day, and the air conditioning greatly appreciated.
I cannot overstate what a lovely villa this is and also how helpful the owner Jayne is.
Do try the local restaurants/shops at the bottom of the road rather than going into Kalkan as they are MUCH cheaper and the people are so nice.
Roof terrace is wonderful in the evening or first thing in the morning - reading on the day bed is a real pleasure.
Highly recommended!
