Village house with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and private pool in Cortes de Baza, Spain

From £420 per week

Rural cave house. Stunning views. Private swimming pool. In village of Cortes de Baza in the Granada region of Andalucia, Spain. Sleeps 4.

Overview

Unusual cave house in private setting, at the edge of the quiet picturesque rural village of Cortes de Baza, with its wide, orange tree-lined streets situated north east of Granada. It is not unusual to see tractors parked outside peoples houses while the farmers have their lunch. The local farmers are olive and almond growers and goat herders. The cave is deliciously cool in summer, cosy in winter. Well appointed with modern appliances and the luxury of an exclusive private swimming pool (Apr to Oct only) and terrace. Impressive view of Jabalcon mountain and rolling hills. Good location for day trips, walking or lazing by the pool. There are two single beds in the bedroom and a double bed in a room adjacent to the diner.

The cave house offered quirky and cool accommodation for a quiet family holiday. Most days all you could hear was bird sound and the occasional farm animal. The inside of the house remained cool even when temperatures were searing outside. If you want to sample real rural Spain the cave house offers an ideal base. The village has a number of small shops to cater for the essentials.
I would recommend the cave house for anyone wanting to get off the beat and track and do something different. There are enough bars etc. within a short walk to allow the car to be dispensed with of an evening and they all provide plates of free tapas with every drink that you order!

Tucked away under the main road is this very rural holiday cave, nestling between the goats, olive groves and almond orchards in the distance, and opposite a tiny traditional cave with ponies.

The cave has everything you will need to relax and for rainy days you are even provided with a selec tion of DVDs, CDs and books. The last time I came here I found the rooms a cool retreat from the searing heat of the southern facing terrace, but if you prefer to stay outside, the pool will keep you cool. In the summer I spent my time relaxing by the pool and reading, cooling off with an occasional swim, but this year I (it can get frosty in January) I moved an armchair into the dining room and snuggled up with my books next to the wood burner, but soon had to move back into the sitting room because it was so hot!

The bathroom is large but basic, with a shower, bidet, loo, wash-basin, and shares the space with a washing machine: very useful!

I loved this place so much in the summer I came back and found different delights in the winter. It is not a villa, but is very cosy and tranquil the village is remote but offers everything you need within walking distance. I will definitely be coming back.

Stayed for 3 weeks in 2007 and fantastic peaceful holiday. Accomodation still excellent with new gazebo, bbq and shower added. Unfortunately the peace and quiet at night was constantly interrupted by a barking dog which shares a concrete courtyard with two horses and was left unattended most nights in the new property across the valley. Barking dogs in rural Spain are part and parcel of life but this one was a bit excessive. Therefore although the property itself is excellent we could not recommend it to a friend. Let us know if the dog goes and we will gladly return some time in the future.

My boyfriend and i went to this cave for a relaxing break and we were both extremely happy with what we got - the cave was gorgeous, the pool was great, the views were stunning and the location was really nice - it had everything we needed within walking distance. The people were very friendly and Mario was a great help and very friendly!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have both said that we would like to go back again - i would recommend this place to anyone - it was fab!
I would also like to thank Barry & Helen for being so helpful when booking - they made the whole process very easy and were a pleasure to deal with.
Overall it was a great holiday and we will definately be back some time in the future!

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Cueva Rambla with our toddler. The private pool was wonderful and despite temperatures hitting 40 degrees the cave stayed a constant cool 24 degrees the whole time. Barry and Helen were very helpful in terms of suggesting things for us to do before we went, and Mario the property manager was both helpful and friendly with excellent English (although I preferred to practice my rusty Spanish). Cortes de Baza is a very friendly rural town well off the tourist track but with everything you need in terms of restaurants and supermarkets and a fab weekly market. I think to get the best out of this property you probably need to have a hire car as the surrounding area is so lovely. We visited the nearby artificial lakes to swim in and also loved the pretty village of Castril. We also drove to Granada to see the Alhambra (a very easy drive, just over an hour away). The cave was very peaceful at night - we had no issue with flies as we just made sure we kept the door to the cave shut during the day. There were a few faint farm smells from the goats down the mountain but Ive had much worse in rural Kent and to be honest wouldnt even be mentioning then in this review if it wasnt that other reviewers had complained about them. The view from the pool is amazing and our toddler slept like a log in the cool quiet cave. The cave has everything you need for cooking in its pretty Spanish-tiled kitchen, a good book library which you are welcome to read and also handily a washing machine. We definitely will return. Thanks for being such great hosts Barry, Helen and Mario. Claire Aug 2014

We stayed in this lovely cave house for 4 days and really enjoyed ourselves. It is a bit different from a traditional villa but it was great fun to stay in a cave. It is amazingly cool inside when outside was 48C, inside was 24C! My only comments to be aware of are the rooms are perfectly normal in size, but the doorways are low. At 6ft3, my husband kept knocking his head. Also the village is very rural, perfectly adequate and a great experience of rural Spain. We liked the fact it was easy to walk into, but there are no tourist trappings (again fine with us). Theres everything you need for a perfectly comfortable holiday, no more flies that you would expect anywhere hot. Minimal countryside smells! The pool is fantastic, a good size, the kids loved it. The local village is great, with lovely restaurants, friendly, and reasonably priced. The whole place comes alive at about 9pm, so adapt to the Spanish way of life! Highly recommend the daily bread van, delicious cakes and bread. Beautiful countryside and interesting surrounding area to visit.

We had a lovely time in your cave, thank you so much...the pool was a great success with the kids and I loved your lounge with the lights with the holes in them, so atmospheric. How great that the cave stays so cool. We didnt see Mario, think he was away, but someone left delicious home made cake and topped up the pool. Our luggage didnt make it to Spain with us, but Marios friend Andreas was brilliant in helping getting it delivered to us, if you get an opportunity would you pass on our thanks. There were no smells and only a couple of flies! CLARE 26 Aug 2013

We are having a really lovely time here in Cortes de baza. Your cave is fantastic and has everything we need. Mario has been very helpful. Very relaxing holiday.

What a fantastic time we had in the cave house, it really is a lovely hideaway. The weather was unbelievable - up in the 40s which I dont think Ive ever seen on a thermometer. We loved the area, delightful village & some wonderful scenery around. The cave house was very comfortable and well equipped too. Weve both been raving about the house & area - most people we know seem to want to go on these all inclusive hols & then wonder why theyve not enjoyed themselves! - Julie 2013

Just returned today from a wonderful time in your cave house. Caroline and I will be definitely returning and will contact you as soon as we have dates. The house location was perfect. Peace, a few squawking hens and a budding brass player practising in the house above were all part of the experience. The surrounding area and beyond is incredible and there is so much more to see. The townspeople were all very friendly, especially at the supermarket. In fact everywhere we went, people were welcoming and kind. Mario was very helpful and understanding, epsecially getting the pool cleaned so promptly. Adrian Bramley - Poole

We all fell in love with your cave and the area, thanks very much for sharing it with us.The facilities are fantastic and the pool was just heaven sent in the hot weather.Really sad to leave and we said that one week is not enough ! We did manage to squeeze in a trip to Zujar for a lounge in the thermal baths (and does it make you sleep well !! ) ,a trip to Bazar and as we mentioned we drove to Aquola water park in Granada on sunday ࿑ euros for a family of four) and had tea in Granada before heading back to the airport. We have so many great memories and look forward to returning someday soon (before we eventually retire out here!) regardsThe Jolly Family, Cambs

Dear Helen and Barry,Just a quick e-mail to let you know that we had a wonderful time at your fabulous cave house . We settled in very quickly and found the peace and quiet idyllic. We have told all our friends and family about our experience and we hope to return again, maybe earlier in the season next time, so we can enjoy that 'cool pool' !! . Best wishesMaxine and Dougie (Oct 08)

We had a fantastic time in your cave in Cortes de Baza. The swimming pool was lovely and the cave really comfortable and cool. The children enjoyed the novelty of sleeping in their cave bedroom. Mario and Natalia could not have been more friendly or helpful and we really enjoyed the things to see and do. We found the pool at Orce, an amazing place. Mario sorted out canoeing for us on Lake Negratin which we really enjoyed. We also visited the Alhambra and Castril on market day. It was a lovely week and we would love to return some time. With best wishes, John & Fiona
