Overview

Casa Renata lies at the foot of the Cimini Mountains and the picturesque medieval town of Soriano nel Cimino, ideally located within a minutes’ drive from an array of excellent local amenities. This well-equipped 2 bedroom/2 bathroom country home is set within its own secluded grounds, surrounded by olive trees, fruit trees and spectacular 360° views overlooking the unspoilt countryside of the Tiber Valley and beyond to the Apennine Mountains.

Set within a prime location, a 15 minute drive to the beautiful historic walled medieval city of Viterbo, an hours’ drive from Rome and less than a 30 minute drive north to our neighbouring borders of Tuscany and Umbria, Casa Renata provides the perfect base in northern Lazio to explore the area’s magnificent towns, gardens, lakes and coastline, close at hand and easily accessible by either car or rail from our main hub station at Orte, which is a 20 minute drive away and offers ample parking. Here you can discover the best of both worlds, a relaxing holiday in the heart of central Italy's stunning countryside, yet perfectly positioned for day trips to some of Italy's most fantastic cities, such as Rome and Florence.

Casa Renata is an ideal holiday home for families with young children, couples and friends alike. The view of Soriano with its crowning castle in the distance provides the perfect back drop for lazy days spent enjoying barbecues, swimming and relaxing around the pool and large garden. Guests staying throughout the Spring and Summer months can help themselves to a number of different fruit growing within the grounds; peaches, cherries, figs, plums and all of our guests can sample our very own olive oil provided in our welcome baskets. Evenings at the villa can be spent dining alfresco around the large table under the spacious veranda watching the bats swoop down over the moonlit pool, the perfect way to unwind after a busy day of sight-seeing. Please visit our website, Tuscia Lets, for more information on Casa Renata.

Our relatively undiscovered, lively town of Soriano with its pretty winding streets and excellent local amenities is reminiscent of those of nearby Tuscany and Umbria, yet untouched my mass tourism. Offering visitors the chance to discover a truly authentic Italy, while still enjoying a great variety of bars, fantastic yet reasonably priced restaurants, traditional stores providing superb local produce and a Friday morning weekly market.

Getting a feel for Soriano living; The town’s main square is the living hub of the community and an integral part of daily life. Stopping off at Bar Roma in the morning for the perfect Italian coffee and pastry and enjoying an evening aperitivo on the piazza while watching the world go by at Bar Centrale, are daily Sorianese past times not to be missed. Be transported back in time by exploring Soriano’s pretty medieval streets, fountains and churches in the heart of the town that lead up to the 13th Century Orsini Castle. Visit the Renaissance fountains of Papacqua and Palazzo Chigi-Albani and enjoy fantastic meals at restaurants Tre Scalini, La Baita La Faggeta or Il Carolino to name but a few, overlooking the valley below providing the perfect setting for al fresco dining on warm Spring and Summer evenings.

Throughout the year towns and villages throughout our region of Tuscia come together in celebrating their own unique festivals, mixing Catholic heritage, ancient customs, Jazz music and proud culinary traditions. An area famous for its cuisine reflecting the regions vast woodlands and lakes, foods such as mushrooms, cherries, wild boar, olive oil and pecorino cheese are in abundance and widely celebrated, from wine in Montefiascone to chestnuts in Soriano. Many popular festivals are held throughout the Autumnal Harvest Season with the arrival of the grape, olive and hazelnut, often resulting in one of the best times to visit the area for days spent sight-seeing when daily temperatures in Autumn commonly remain around 23°C. However it is in the spring and summer months when Tuscia’s festivals are in full swing, with seemingly a festival for every day of the week! Please see our website for further details.

Our hometown of Soriano nel Cimino celebrates one of the largest festivals in the area with its wonderful 'Sagra della Castagna' or Chestnut Festival. During the first three weeks of October, visitors are transported back in time walking the town’s decorated medieval streets and immersed into a medieval world, from grand medieval parades and ancient battle re-enactments to medieval sports; flag throwing, jousting and archery. Over 500 participants in medieval costume represent the four quarters or contradas of Soriano; Papacqua, La Rocca, San Giorgio and Trinita, who compete against each other throughout the course of the festival. Visitors also have the chance to partake in lively celebrations held at each of the contrada’s four tavernas by joining the ‘Sorianese’ in sampling a variety of fantastic local 5 course meals. It's the perfect time to visit!

Ciao a tutti! My name is Daniela and I am lucky to have been coming to Soriano nel Cimino and the surrounding area of Tuscia my whole life. We are an Anglo-Italian family based in Sussex, England. We have long family ties with this beautiful town through my father, where we continue to spend our holidays with family and friends. Our property Casa Renata is used as a home away from home, and so ideally fully equipped with all you could need for a long or short stay. We hope you enjoy this place as much as we do. Why holiday in Soriano at Casa Renata? The villa offers the best of both worlds; a relaxed country home yet just minutes from lively village life. The house was built in 1990, where once stood an old farmhouse. The land was bought especially due to its prime location to Soriano and its surrounding beauty. We have a number of fruit trees; olive, cherry, fig, peach, lemon, hazelnut, which our guests are more than welcome to help themselves to. We also provide our guests, with a taster of our very own extra virgin olive oil within our welcome pack, which is full of local goodies, ideal to use as a dressing. It is all about the food for us, so whether you choose to stay at home and cook for yourselves in the well equipped family kitchen and on the BBQ or eat out in Soriano’s superb restaurants, the villa is an ideal base for you. What makes our region unique? This area of Italy, known as La Tuscia, is one of the country’s hidden gems. Although Italians have been visiting this area for years, few non-Italians have discovered this diverse region of northern Lazio and its many festivals. We love to spend warm Spring and Summer days lounging by the lake, Lake Vico for a more peaceful and relaxed vibe or Lake Bolsena with its many bars, restaurants and water sports. And after all these years we still love to visit and explore this area’s array of medieval towns, I recommend the unique town of Civita di Bagnoregio as a must see. Back in Soriano you can live like a local and immerse yourself into an authentic Italian community. With our local knowledge of the area we are more than happy to recommend places to visit, restaurants etc and shopping tips!
