Gubbio
Gubbio (ITALY), town (1991 pop. 30,792), in Umbria, central Italy. It is an agricultural and tourist center and has long been known for its ceramics. Originally an Umbrian town (coins and the Iguvine Tables were found there), it later flourished under the Romans. Gubbio was a powerful free commune in the 11th–12th cent., came under the dukes of Urbino in 1384, and was held by the papacy from 1624 to 1860. A local school of painting (14th–15th cent.) included Guido Palmerucci and Ottaviano Nelli. The town retains a medieval character. Notable structures include the Gothic Palazzo dei Consoli (14th–15th cent.), the Palazzo Ducale (begun 1476), and a well-preserved Roman theater (1st cent. B.C.).

This was our second visit to Villa Romagna and we had a very enjoyable stay. The accomodation is spacious and the view across the valley is captivating. We enjoyed the pool and the table tennis is a special advantage for the property.

There was heavy rain the day we arrived and the road up to the villa proved challenging. The owner arranged for the road to be repaired a few days later but initially we had to unload the car and 4 passengers walk up the hill. Once the rain was gone the road held up pretty well and we were able to get up and down with a front wheel drive car. For a 4x4 owner its your chance to be smug and use it for what its intended.
We loved seeing the wild boar and enjoyed the steep walk up to the cross at the top of the hill above the house. It is a must do view! Overall we were very happy with our stay, we knew what to expect as we had been ther before and in all honesty we think it a hidden gem.
Gubbio itself is a charming but quiet sort of town, but the surrounding countryside is ajoy to explore.
We will come back to Villa Romagna I am sure as we have relatives in nearby Umbertide, but look forward to another adventure elsewhere next year.

Our second stay at the locations so I suppose that tells it all. Stunning views, very peaceful but only 5 minutes into glorious Gubbio by car. The track up to the property takes some getting used to but its well worth it. Most cars will get up there but the first time is pretty daunting. My family and i loved it and we will be back!

Fantastic views, area, lovely owners, great pool, loved it. The drive up can be a little steep, we did in vw passat estate 5 people and cases. small 4x4 would be better. Would like to come back.

The property was very clean on arrival, well-appointed and cool in the summer heat. The grounds were very well-cared for and the pool was very welcome. While the steep and winding approach to the property is a rather daunting one at first, it can be soon mastered and the height achieved leads to some spectacular views across the plain of Gubbio towards receding ranges of Umbrian hills. The property is a convenient centre for visiting northern Umbria or the adjacent parts of Tuscany and the Marche. We were very touched by the obvious concern and friendliness of Enzo (the owner).

Glad to have Enzo meet us to show us the way. We thought the climb up the hill in the car well worth it. Fantastic panoramic views, clean and spacious villa and pool. Very well equipped. Enjoyed being there relaxing and didnt feel the need to go very far. Will definitely return.

Enzo was tremendously helpful and a perfect host, he could not do enough for us. The property is a little difficult to access up a steep slope but has tremendous views over Gubbio.
Overall a very good location and value for money.
