***Before the war, Milies(which actually translates into "Apple_Trees"), was one of the largest (about 5000 inhabitants, nowadays, only about 730.. ) and highly developed central villages of Pelion. A multitude of shops filled the area of the square and the area around the train station. A large part of the inhabitants of eastern Pelion traveled by train, the historic "Moutzouris", to Tsangarada, Mouresi, Kissos, etc. All producers brought their apples, mainly, as well as all their other products on the train and promoted them to Volos.

***Moutzouris, the historic train of the people of Volos:

In our days, the picturesque journey by train "Moutzouris" to the beauties of Pelion, starts from Ano Lehonia to Milies and takes place on weekends and in the summer, more frequently, but it can also be hired by Hellenic Train (details at: https://www.hellenictrain.gr/en/pelion-train-mythical-route ) by various groups of people for various purposes.

***Execution of the people of Milies and the Burning of the village, on October 4, 1943, MONUMENT at Milies Railway Station: On October 4, 1943, the people of Milies experienced one of the most tragic moments in their history.

~~~Mountain Pelion in General: Pelion stands out among the mountains of Greece. Although it is not especially high (its highest peak, Pourianos Stavros, measures 1624 m.), because of its geographical position collects a lot of snow in winter. This results in plenty of spring water, creating high potential for human settlement: Pelion is the most densely inhabited mountain of Greece. It also remains overgrown with vegetation, just as it was in antiquity, as mentioned in poems of Homer and Hesiod. Its position inbetween two seas, the Aegean sea and Pagasitikos gulf, means that mountain and sea are always very close. Not many ski centers (at Chania/Hania village, Pelion)are only four hours of walking time away from a beach, like Pelion`s ski center at Chania/Hania. This combination of mountain and sea, mythology and history, natural beauty and human works (old villages, monasteries, stone bridges, fountains, cobblestone paths), coupled with availability of both summer and winter turistical infrastructure and the presence of a large city nearby (Volos), is what makes Pelion so special. It is a paradise for walkers and nature, mountain and sea lovers.
Regarding Milies Village in particular: One must certainly visit and use the Traditional Old Train, Station and Museum, The local Museum, the Historical Taxiarcxes Church at the Village central Square and the Old Library of the Village, "Psichis Akos" You can also book horse back riding at Milies and engage in several other activities as well. A lot of things to explore at the nearby City and Port of Volos, 26klm away from Milies. Just ask and google search .
