Villa Lahania

We spent a fantastic week at Villa Lahania and were very sad to leave. We were surprised at the size and calibre of the property when we arrived, as the photos don’t fully do it justice. The views are superb and the rooms are all bright, spacious, clean and attractively decorated. The villa is very well equipped, with good internet access, a dishwasher and washing machine, huge fridge-freezer, plenty of kitchen utensils, a big barbecue, pool inflatables and snorkelling gear. We were also really touched and delighted to find a big selec tion of fresh food, wine and beer awaiting us on our arrival!
We found the beds to be comfortable and there is effective air conditioning in all but the children’s room at the top (which has two large fans).
The weather was very hot during our stay, so the constant cross winds were very welcome. The pool is a delight, and has plenty of deck chairs and a cabana at the end that gave us shade at all times. The remote location meant the night sky was amazing – we had never seen so many stars and spent many an evening gazing up at them!
In terms of position, the villa is towards the bottom of Rhodes between the small villages of Lahania and Gennadi. We enjoyed being away from it all, but it was quite a distance from Lindos (25 mins) or Rhodes Town (about an hour). The beautiful ruined castles of Monolithos and Asklipio are only a short drive away and are definitely worth a visit, and Prasonisi beach (with its hoards of colourful kite surfers) is only about a 15 minute drive.
Although the villa is just off the main road, the traffic was sporadic and didn’t bother us. We walked over to the local beach one day, which is very nice but there is no shade and the sun was too hot to stay long, so we preferred to stay by the pool. The latter is also lit up at night so great for a night swim!
There is no information at the villa, but the owner, Dimitrios, was very helpful in answering all my questions by email before and during our stay. For eating, we would recommend the Taverna at Lahania, which is only 5 minutes away by car, while the nearest supermarket is at Gennadi about 10 minutes away. Its quite small but had everything we needed. There is a larger Carrefour Express about 15 minutes away.
