Villa Equus is a two bedroom house situated in a lovely development of just 60 properties. It has a shared pool (with 5 other houses) and 3 terraces (ground floor and first floor).
It has been furnished with simple but lovely contemporary style furniture with the major emphasis on living outdoors.
The ground floor consists of a double bedroom, toilet and basin and a kitchen/living room. The kitchen/living room leads out onto a large terrace under a covered pergola. This in turn leads to a small private garden, with steps down to the shared swimming pool. The terrace has a lovely dining set together with a Weber gas BBQ.
Upstairs, there is a large twin bedroom with stunning views to the sea and mountains. There is also a bathroom with shower, basin and toilet. Off the landing is the upper terrace under a covered pergola, which is furnished with luxury sun loungers and chairs for relaxing away from the pool.
The overall development is generally very quiet, with the house having ample shaded areas together with hot spots for sun worshippers!

Villa Equus is situated in a lovely quiet area, just minutes from the beach. Lake Kournas (the only freshwater lake in Crete and rumoured to be bottomless!) is within 4km and the White Mountains provide a superb backdrop. This area is really uncommercialised and is ideal for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
The beautiful fishing village of Georgopoulis is 4km away, where you can find numerous tavernas, bars and shops. This is very lively at night with its bustling atmosphere and easy way of life.
On the beach and along the coast road, there are many tavernas and beach bars within 5-10kms. These all offer well priced food and drink from simple (but lovely) local cuisine to meals that will appeal to everyone.
There are 2 supermarkets within 5 minutes of the house which sell all the items that you would need. There are also lovely little gift shops which sell all manner of local crafts and produce.
Although there are a lot of tavernas and small shops within walking distance (15 mins) of the house, it would be essential to have a car if you really want to have the freedom to appreciate the surrounding areas.
The Venetian town of Rethymnon, with its ancient fortress is 20kms away along the national road. The old part of Rethymnon is simply beautiful. Whether during the day when you can wander around the lovely small harbour with its plethora of tavernas (a lot selling freshly caught seafood), or at night when the cobbled streets of the Old Town are alive with people shopping, eating, drinking or simply just strolling around sampling the atmosphere!
There is good shopping also, with Kountorioti St offering high quality clothes and designer shops.
In the summer, concerts, theatrical performances, ballet, recitals, traditional dance and song are performed at the Venetian fortress.
From the harbour, you can also take boat trips to see dolphins, or sail on a pirate ship, or take a boat to secluded beaches.
In Chania Province there is also the stunning Samaria Gorge with its wonderful views and walks.

Villa Equus ist ein gepflegtes, sauberes Haus , dass ansprechend ausgestattet ist. Geschirr und Besteck sind ausreichend für 4 Personen vorhanden. Nur für einen Aufenthalt von 2 - 3 Wochen könnten einige Handtücher und Bettlaken mehr vorhanden sein, auch sollten diese nicht weiß sein.
Die überdachte Terrasse mit dem kleinen, an den Seiten bepflanzten Rasen davor, lädt zum Verweilen ein. Hier fühlt man sich richtig wohl. Ein großer Tisch mit Stühlen und vier Liegen machen es sehr gemütlich. Sehr schön ist auch der direkte Zugang zum Pool, der direkt am Grundstück liegt.
Insgesamt befindet sich das Haus in einer sehr gepflegten Anlage.
Auch wenn man einmal Hilfe benötigt, wir hatten an einem Sonntag Stromausfall wegen Überlastung, ist das Serviceteam schnell, freundlich und hilfsbereit zur Stelle. Ebenso war der Kontakt zum Eigentümer im Vorfeld jederzeit unkompliziert und freundlich.
Dieses Haus ist wirklich zu empfehlen und wir möchten auf jeden Fall im nächsten Jahr wiederkommen. :)
