Overview

Welcome to my Thirteenth Century historic manor house in the heart of the Dordogne's Périgord Noir region of South-West France. offering the ideal combination of a tranquil rural location, yet with with a traditional friendly bar/restaurant just a two minute walk away, and the local village of Salignac Eyvigues only a short distance where you can find a boulengerie, excellent boucherie, supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants.

The gite is located in an idyllic rural French hamlet within the grounds of our Thirteenth Century manor house but is completely independent with its own entrance, terraces and parking.

The gite retains many original features (e.g. exposed stone walls and beams) and historic charm. The ground floor is open-plan comprising kitchen, diner and lounge spaces. Of course, all the modern comforts of home are also here, including British TV, wi-fi, and a large library of books you are welcome to read. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, electric oven and gas hob.

There is air-conditioning on the ground floors and in both bedrooms. For winter lets there is a pellet-burning stove and heating throughout, included in the price.

Outside there are three separate areas :
- an enclosed courtyard offering complete privacy with 4 sun loungers, cast-iron dining table and chairs, and BBQ
- a sheltered area equipped with dart board, bar football and swing ball
- an area to relax with wicker sofa, chairs, coffee table and parasol

There is also plenty of room to park your car, and a large gate that can be left open or closed for privacy.

Swimming and canoeing are both popular activities situated at the Dordogne River and the Vezere : both a short drive from the gite.
The Lac de Tamnies ( a lakeside beach ) with a cafe bar, a fantastic inflatable course, and a section reserved for serous swimmers is also very close by.

5/5 Idyllic country house The beautifully situated holiday home is tastefully and comfortably furnished and very clean. With air conditioning, heating and a pellet stove, it is suitable for both hot and cold days. Diane is a sympathetic, nice and courteous hostess. In addition to French, she also speaks English (as her mother tongue), so communication is possible without any knowledge of French. Since she lives next door, she can quickly help with anything if needed. The little hamlet is charming, with walking trails on the doorstep and an Irish pub a 2 minute walk. The nearest place for shopping, Salignac, can be reached in 5 minutes by car. The location is also perfect for many sights. An optimal mix of quiet and central! We really enjoyed the week and are happy to recommend it. Thank you again Diane for allowing us to vacation in your lovely cottage...

Private Owner From Saint Crepin Et Carlucet, France Member since Feb 2023

I am Diane and I live in a thirteenth century Manor house with my beautiful, affectionate and friendly border collie, Florette. I am originally from the North-West of England, but I’ve been living and working in various countries and in France since 2000. After seven years of giving English lessons to students at the University of La Rochelle, I decided that my heart belonged to the French countryside, and so began my long search for a traditional French house with character, history and charm. I finally moved to Carlucet in 2007. I have been very lucky to have lived and worked in some stunning places around the world, including Canada, the USA, Australia and the Republic of Ireland, and my aim has always been to restore an old house, using its history to renovate with the utmost integrity. To this end I have sourced and used only traditional materials, local artisans whenever possible and my knowledge and love of historical buildings gained from my Bachelor of Arts studies in Art History. I am now the proud owner of a fully-restored thirteenth century Manoir, complete with original medieval beams, original stone walls created using wattle and daub, enormous fire-places and a vaulted cellar with arrow slits (narrow vertical apertures) where archers once launched arrows during the Hundred Years War.
