Overview
Maison de la Combe is a charming 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom 15th century stone cottage situated within the walls of the beautiful medieval bastide of Domme, Dordogne offering comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests. Situated at the top of rue Porte de la Combe, it is ideally located within a few minutes' walk to shops, bars, restaurants and tourist attractions.
From the picturesque front terrace opens into a stylish large open-plan Living/Kitchen area:
The Living area offers 2 comfortable sofas, TV with DVD and Freesat, Sony Bluetooth speaker, 2 x coffee tables, elegant sideboard and mirror with a selection of guide books and leaflets, clock, wooden dining table with 6 chairs.
The larger-than-life fireplace holds a recently installed wood burning stove to keep you cozy during the cooler evenings. Wood is available at no extra charge.
The Kitchen area is fully equipped with electric oven/hob/extractor fan, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, fridge/freezer, toaster/grill, kettle, coffee making accessories, ice maker, blender and a good range of crockery and cooking accessories, utensils, iron and ironing board.
Leading from the Kitchen area is a private, part-covered patio with table and 6 chairs where you can relax and enjoy alfresco dining to one side and rattan patio furniture to the other.
The open-plan wooden stairs lead both downstairs and upstairs:
Downstairs set on the bottom floor is the large Master Bedroom (35 sqm) consisting of king-size bed (6ft/180cm), rugs, bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table with stool and mirror, TV with FreeSat, 2 electric radiators and hairdryer. this is a cool room in the heat of the summer and has a nice inward opening window with window grill and shutter opening onto the rue Porte de la Combe. From the Master Bedroom, there is a step down through a stunning Gothic-style arch leading into an Ensuite Shower Room (20 sqm) consisting of double sink vanity unit, large shower (120cm x 90cm), electric towel rail and toilet.
As these rooms are below road level and built into bedrock we have installed a climate controlled dehumidifier which runs automatically to control humidity and maintain a comfortable atmosphere in the room.
Upstairs set on the 1st floor the landing area leads onto:
1 double bedroom consisting of queen-size bed (5ft/160cm), rugs, bedside tables and lamp, wall heater, hanging rail and hair dryer;
1 smaller double bedroom consisting of small double bed (4ft/140cm), rug, bedside table and lamp, wall heater and hanging rail;
Bathroom with toilet, wash basin unit with 2 drawers and shower unit.
The former owner, a local resident of Domme, had spent the last few years sympathetically restoring this former Doctor's house to its former glory, retaining the magnificent fireplace set on the ground floor Living/Kitchen area. We have carried out further renovations to the property including the installation of a beautiful Ensuite Shower room to compliment the Master Bedroom downstairs.
With the exceptionally hot summers France and Europe has recently experienced, we have also purchased a portable air conditioning unit situated on the landing which can be vented out of the Velux window on the landing with accompanying accessories. Due to local restrictions in Domme, we are not permitted to install a fixed air conditioning unit so we hope this portable unit will help to give some comfort during hot weather.
Because of the open plan wooden stairs, care and attention must be taken at all times when using the stairs, particularly with young children and elderly. There is no bannister rail but there are 2 handrails fixed to the walls. We are planning to make changes to this in the near future.
There is also a fairly steep step down from the Master Bedroom into the Ensuite Shower Room.
As there are no bedrooms on the ground floor it is not wheelchair accessible.
All bathroom towels, tea towels, bed linen and toilet rolls are all supplied and included in the nightly rate.
Water and electricity are included in the nightly rate.
Cleaning charge is not included in the nightly rate and will be added as a separate charge when making a booking. This charge is currently €195.
Refundable Damage Deposit is not included in the nightly rate and will be added as a separate charge when making a booking. This deposit is €400.
A Parking Permit is provided free of charge for use during your stay (1 x permit per booking). There are street parking bays adjacent and opposite the house and also a residents car park, located approx. 20 yards away.
An additional 3% Taxe de Sejour (Tourist Tax) will be added to the booking fee - this is a compulsory charge which is then paid over to the local authority.
