Overview
La Croix is located between the villages of Courleon and Gizeux and is only a 25 minute drive to Saumur, with it's impressive chateau and many restaurants, shops and bars. A short drive or cycle south of La Croix through forest and you will reach 'La Loire' river and the Bougueil vineyards, here there are lots of opportunities to taste the local wines and visit the many picturesque villages along the river. It's a great place to relax and picnic whilst enjoying the views.
Our gite is perfect for those who enjoy active holidays, the area is perfect for cycling with empty roads and endless forest trails. You can hire out canoes on one of the many local lakes or rivers and with Saumur being famous for its 'Ecole Nationale d'Equitation - Cadre Noir' there are lots of local places to go horse riding as well as visiting the Cadre Noir itself in Saumur. Although not close to the coast there are plenty of choices for swimming too - the many natural lakes in the area have beaches and safe swimming areas which have lifeguards in peak summer months. It is also suited to those who prefer the slower pace of life with many Chateaux, gardens and historic towns within an easy drive. The layout of the accommodation makes it accessible for all ages and the less mobile.

Last minute break We have just spent a wonderful week in this beautifully renovated cottage. Very spacious and full of character, whilst retaining the charm of the cottage, all modern amenities are at hand. Located in amongst the local fruit farms and forests of the area we loved plotting our destination for the next day, enjoying our aperitif in the garden , watching the sun set. We were never short of somewhere to explore with Chateaux, markets and lovely little towns in abundance,all within very reasonable drive times. Due to work commitments we needed to book somewhere from Friday to Friday and this was no problem, Louise was extremely accommodating and all my communications and concerns were dealt with immediately. We would highly recommend LaCroix, it gave us everything we hoped for and more. Thank you Louise and Peter.
A fabulous location and well appointed gite. Superb holiday in a tranquil and stunning setting A brilliant stay made all the more special by sharing it with the hosts and very good friends, Pete & Louise. Their gite is simply stunning; well presented, very well equipped and set in the most idyllic of surroundings within the Loire Valley and within easy reach of the more popular tourist areas. Great holiday - thank you both.
A fortnight in ideal surroundings The experience we had was more than we expected. Everything in the Gite was there including English TV programmes. The garden was atmospheric with the abundance of lavender which encouraged all manner of bees and butterflies. The weather was exceptional which in the S France broke the temperature record. The surrounding villages were an architectural delight and the wild life include buzzards, hares, turtledoves and badgers. All in all an amazing experience.

Peace and quiet Lovely house in a beautiful, peaceful location Very well equipped everywhere. A brilliant location for visiting chateaux, swimming lakes and wine-tasting at the caves in Saumur. Darren gave really useful information and recommendations for visits in the local area.
Well, what a wonderful time we have had in France! We all fell in love with the location and the Ashley/Holloway party thought La Croix was a beautiful home - it really was hard to leave and we will hold the memories of a good time for years. Thank you for your directions, instructions and advice - all were welcome and very useful and we were able to get about with ease and find all we needed. Thank you again for a wonderful week.
