Orange Grove House, Postira, Island Of Brac, Dalmatia, Croatia.
Beach village house with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in Postira, Croatia
From €154 per week
Beautiful white stone seafront house in the popular fishing village of Postira. Extremely spacious, with 4 bedrooms, the house can accommodate 2 related families at once, each having a floor.
Overview
Orange Grove House is a lovely, spacious, seafront house in a small fishing village on the Dalmation coast. The house is in the heart of the village, near to the Supermarket, Post Office, open air farmers market and little stone fish market.
Croatia Airlines, Easyjet, British Airways, Norwegian Air and Whizzair fly regularly to Split and discounted fares for these can be obtained through Travel Republic. Austrian Airlines fly direct to Brac Airport.
Orange Grove House is not your typical holiday house by the sea. This beautiful seafront house is extremely spacious with large airy rooms, all of which have panoramic views either over the harbour or the garden behind the house. The property's size, the nature of its construction out of Brac stone, and its soundproof qualities make it very suitable for two related families to share a holiday there, each one having a floor to themselves, and sharing the konoba sitting room, dining terrace and tv/computer room. The ground floor summer kitchen, on the same level as the barbeque, can be used for making salads or deserts. The main dining terrace is close to the main kitchen.
Guests can enjoy sea views from the sun terrace overlooking the sea and the totally enclosed garden provides a safe play area for children. It is unusual to find such a large house on the coast that has not been divided up for multiple occupation. The large dining terrace, sunny for breakfast, shady in the heat of the day, romantic in the evening, it is perfect for a relaxing meal after a day in the sun.
Built of white marble this is part of one of the large summer palaces built by Venetian nobles when they ruled Croatia. Elegant and spacious, it retains many of its original features including the beautiful floorboards some of which are 24 inches wide.
The beds are modern and extremely comfortable 2 king-sized, 1 small double, 2single beds.
For larger family groups we can offer 2 extra single beds in the twin bedroom.
The cost of renting this property includes Croatian VAT/PDV.
Postira is a lovely village. Although the fishermen still go out early in the morning in their boats, Postira is becoming quite cosmopolitan. Its newly created white marble solarium and swimming beach, a beautiful oval on the seafront a few minutes away from the house, is really fantastic for both adults and children. There are plenty of opportunities to swim from other local beaches and our local hotel has a fabulous swimming pool and solarium that our guests can use if they buy drinks or use the buffet. Sandy Lovrecina beach, with its sweet little restaurant, is only 15 minutes away by car. The beach here is very safe for children and when you are 25 metres out to sea the water only comes up to about your waist. If you arrive early enough you can see the little donkeys being fed.
A new oval marble seafront solarium was built a couple of years ago. It is just a 5 minute walk along the seafront from the house, is very safe for children, has facilities for disabled people to get into the sea and has restaurants nearby.
There are many other little sheltered coves around the headland in Postira and close at hand, there are many restaurants producing excellent and inexpensive food, including a pizza restaurant near the solarium which serves really great pizzas. The Island of Brac is about the size of the Isle of Wight so travelling around it is easy, either by car or by means of buses that depart from the bus station in Supetar, the little Ferry Port.
The house is sea-front right in the centre of the village where most life in the village occurs. Near the house is a bar which hosts live events three or four times a week. Guests can either take part in these or watch the singers, bands or fire jugglers from the terrace over a glass of wine. These can be quite loud but we have installed double glazing which reduces the noise levels so we don't have complaints about noise.
Although the house is large our guests are not bothered by its size. A couple of years ago young couple with a 2 year old son stayed there and lovednit so much that, as we had availability, extended their stay by almost another week.

Lovely property. 7 adults including 4 teens, plenty of room, but description not accurate. Had to pay tourist tax even though it states this is included. The tv was not working (2 very wet days!). Phoned and was told someone would come that afternoon to fix it. No one came. According to complaints book found later on top of fridge tv has not worked since 2008! No BBQ, oven gloves or outside light on stairs down to second bathroom which couldnt be used during the night. The lock on inside bathroom door was broken.
Such a shame these faults have just been left. All of the above have been mentioned previously but ignored. Would recommend this lovely villa if basic repairs carried out. What a pity they cant be bothered.

We had a fantastic holiday. The villa had everything we could possibly have needed even down to emergency telephone numbers, phrase book and recommendations of where to eat and places to visit. The neighbours were very friendly and helpful with their recommendations and the owners friend Tony called several times to make sure everything was alright. Five minutes from the villa was a large Supermarket which had a selection of everything we needed and beside it was three bars/restaurants also a new restaurant opened while we were there all provided very good food and were very child friendly. The area was quiet, had little traffic and the children loved the play areas and see ing the peacocks. I would have not problems recommending the villa to my family and friends.

We were very pleased when we got to the orange grove house - The rooms are lovely - beautifull old building with lovely furniture . The location is great close to everything. The beds where excellent. But there where some downsides - we travelled early may - and had coldish wet weather several days - this made things a bit claustraphobic - the house was cold. The downstairs bathroom was also cold - and you have to go outside and down some stairs to get to it - not what you want on cold wet days - but upstairs bathroom good - great shower. The upstairs living room is awkwardly furnished and small - the kids used it as a play room - ideal for that - but not somewhere to sit and relax for adults - as we had bad weather this was a problem for us - the terasse is lovely - but not rain proof ! The balcony you see in the picture with flowers is not for use - there is a small one on the inside of it but with no furniture.
But all in all the house is lovely - and charming - and good value for money - some heating in bathrooms would be good for colder periods - but in sommer season this must be a lovely place to stay - recomend anyone to take a walk to nearby village "dol"(30 - 40 mins) and eat at dinos - with football pitch across the road - delicios food - adults and children where delighted!

Excellent location, which goes a long way to deciding value for money.
We found the verandah a delight, and used it all the time - but there is really no other lounge area suitable for the 6 of us.
The property is overall very clean, but attention to detail, and to some maintenance issues, would improve its appeal.
We were a little disappointed by the downstairs bathroom facilities, but the first floor bathroom is outstandingly good.
We had a really enjoyable holiday, slept comfortably and well, and were reluctant to have to leave and return to UK.

We have been visiting Croatia since 1968 and when, In 2003, we had the opportunity to purchase Harbour House, Bol and Orange Grove House, Postira, both on the Island of Brac on the Dalmatian coast, we jumped at it. We have never regretted this and hope that our guests feel as happy in Croatia as we do. Croatia is a wonderful country. It is clean and pristine. The sea is completely crystalline and clear and a joy for swimming and the watersports that Croatia offers are absolutely fantastic.
