Overview
The location of this property could not be more perfect for a holiday. Peace and privacy for those who want to chill out, yet with all amenities just around the corner. It is set on the first floor of a villa on a quiet residential street in Hissar. No car hire needed.
Hissar (or Hisarya) is a thermal spa town close to Plovdiv city, Bulgaria, and has been a wellness resort since Roman times.....
The ground floor of the villa is not occupied so those who rent here will have the whole house to themselves.
There is a private courtyard at the front where you can relax.
Within 2 minutes walking you will find a spa centre, supermarket, restaurants, cafes, the Tourist Office & a park with mineral springs.
The double bedroom has a king sized bed. The spacious twin room has 2 single beds. A baby's cot is available if needed. The sofa bed in the living room is large and comfortable. If your party is larger than 5 please enquire.
Less than 5 minutes walk away is a newly opened balneotherapy centre.
5 minutes walk in the other direction brings you to the Roman walls that surround the old centre of the town: Diocletianopolis as it was known in Roman times.
THE TOWN
Hissar, or Hisarya, has 2 dozen thermal springs, with water between 24C – 49C, leafy parks and many spa centres & outdoor swimming pools. It is famous for its mild climate, clean air, and the healing properties of the mineral water. Because of its climate and hot mineral water, it attracts visitors all year round.
The majority of tourists who visit, come here to avail of the wellness & health centres,so the town is perfect for people who want to relax, recharge and commune with nature. At the same time there are lots of activities, both in town and close by.
For history buffs, there are numerous sites of interest - Roman baths, the remains of a small amphitheatre, the barracks of the Roman garrison, a Roman tomb, the foundations of a couple of the oldest churches in Bulgaria, as well as the best preserved Roman fortress walls in Bulgaria.
There are also many wonderful cafes and restaurants, the majority of which have beautiful gardens to enjoy.
Hissar is at the foothills of the Sredna Gora mountains, and there are many opportunities for hiking and mountain biking in the surrounding nature. Bicycles can be rented from some of the nearby hotels..
NEARBY
Starocel Wine & Spa complex is a 20 minute drive away - there is a bus service or taxis can be arranged locally if you wish - there you can find a Thracian tomb complex, and a state of the art Winery, with a tasting room which recreates the interior of the tombs.
We highly recommend a visit!
40 minutes driving will take you to the town of Plovdiv, which is the cultural capital of Bulgaria. There you will find the cobbled streets of the Old Town, full of architecture from the National Revival Period. There is a regular bus & train service to and from Hissar, with about 10 departures every day.
The 'House of Traditions' in Staro Zhelazere, is a folklore centre that holds regular events & exhibitions, about 10 mins drive and on the same bus route as Starocel

- quite area
- close to the center
- enough to do around Hisarya, even when you are with public transport and small children
- several possibilities for transport - bus, train, taxi
- a lot of hiking possibilities from the town.
- nice house, with two rooms and a living room, so enough private space.
- two patios, front and back.
- wide number of very affordable restaurants in town.
- a lot of ancient Roman and Thracian sightseeing in and outside town.
Improvements:
- larger pans in the kitchen.
- sunny patio on the back is nice, but with some restauration and a fire place for bbq would make it the perfect place :-)

My partner and I stayed in this lovely apartment in Hissar for two weeks in June 2009. The apartment is clean, comfortable, airy, and in a very quiet, up-market area of the town. The apartment is on the upper floor of an old bulgarian house which has been restored very tastefully and to a high standard. There are two patio areas, ,one at the front and one to the back of the house, where we sat in the evenings, listening to the sound of cicadas and looking at the stars. The apartment is well equipped, and has an excellent air conditioning system which works very quickly to cool everything down when it gets very hot outside. The bed was very comfortable, and the owners had left a good supply of bed linen and towels for our use. There are very good shops, restaurants, and the local tourist office all within a few minutes walk of the apartment. The town itself is a pretty magical place, full of healing water spas, old wells where you can drink the spa water for free, roman ruins, fountains, etc. Most people do not speak english, but are very helpful and kind, and it is very easy to make yourself understood with some sign language and a phrase book. The women who work in the tourist office all speak english, and will go out of their way to help you with any request or inquiry. The local people in general seem to have a very relaxed attitude to life, and most people stroll around unhurried and chilled out. Many people sit out in the local parks, either just relaxing in the sun, or reading. There are many good restaurants with a very high quality of food, including good vegetarain dishes, and a very good one we visited often is The National, which is just around the corner from the apartment. The proprietors there are Boyanka and Kircho, who speak english, are very warm and friendly, and have an english translation of their menu available. If you wish to cook yourself, there is a very good cooker in the apartment, and several local supermarkets nearby where you can buy fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, and the local wine from a winery just a few miles away. Food and wine are extremely cheap to buy, but of a good quality. We absolutely loved our time in Hissar, and were very sad to leave. It is a perfect place to go to relax, and get away from the rat race.We would definitely stay in this apartment again!
