The Costa Tropical, is blessed with an enviable climate  probably the best in mainland Europe.  Traditionally this has helped the local economy to prosper, now intensive agriculture and fishing are as important as the expanding yet still low-key tourism.

Some of the  surrounding agricultural fields are covered in large 'Invernaderos' (plastic greenhouses), allowing for the rapid cultivation of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and French beans for export to the supermarkets of Northern Europe.  The hillsides and valleys are covered in fruit trees many sub-tropical varieties including avocados, mangoes, loquats and custard apples. Further inland at altitude and with a harsher Winter climate - citrus fruits, olives, almonds and chesnuts flourish. Cortijo Nuevo rentals are recommended any time of year, snow and frosts never experienced down on the coast near Motril - the formidable mountain range close behind acts as a protector.  This former Spanish farm enjoys some fine sea and mountain views an ideal holiday base for travellers seeking a relaxing break in authentic Andalucia! |
