Away to real Spain
Our village, is the perfect spot to enjoy real Spain at a relaxing pace. The town house is in the heart of the community, and yet in a quiet location. It has a large lounge leading to the fully fitted kitchen which has granite work surfaces, a washing machine, cooker and hob and refrigerator. There are ample cooking utensils and crockery for eating and a coffee maker, toaster and microwave. The spiral staircase takes you to the galleried bedroom where one of the walls is made from the original stone. The view from the bedroom looks across to the Sierras and you can also spot the local church spire. The glass shower room off is fully tiled with a toilet and wash hand basin.
There are 680 inhabitants and only a few speak any English, but they are all really friendly and only too willing to help, using sign language if neccessary! There are seven bars, all of which serve food, some tapas and others full meals. There are two 'supermarkets' well stocked with Spanish food and accessories, a bank with a hole in the wall, a pharmacy and a butchers. Fish, fresh groceries and bread can be bought from either the vans that come around or the man with his donkey (vegetables only). The nearest bar sells fresh bread daily and the estanco sells basic groceries, stamps and tobacco. There are two typically Spanish churches, one with a large nest and resident family of storks. Aracena is 7km away and is a resonably large town with a theatre, swimming pool, dozens of good quality restaurants serving only freshly prepared food and in the centre, not a high street name in sight. Yet you can buy almost all you would need. The town also has a stunning Castle on the hill, several baroque churches and the famous Grutas or caves that were in the film, The Temple of Doom. You can easily walk to Aracena on two of the numerous senderos (mule tracks). It takes about one and a half hours across the hills and the scenery is beautiful. The whole of the Sierras are criss crossed with thesesenderos, many created during the time the Moors ruled Spain. Seville can be reached easily by car or bus and it is a beautiful city to visit, with fine architecture, fine eating and fantastic shopping. We are also lucky to have a large lake nearby, for a stroll, for a swim, for a picnic or just for a quiet time. COME AND ENJOY |
