The Villa

We bought this villa when we fell in love with the area, the food, the people and the pace of life. We come back several times every year, and hope that our guests will appreciate the home-from-home feel of the villa.

As a little extra to our guests, you have the use of a Turkish mobile phone. Our local agent (Akin) will give you the phone with the villa keys, The phone has 100 minutes paid for at the start of the season and can be topped up easily at local phone shops.. The phone is pre-loaded with local contact numbers such as the the 24 hour Turkish pizza restaurant and the local taxi rank - and of course Akins number.

General: Air-conditioning in the living room and all three bedrooms keeps the villa cool, even on the hottest day or night.

Mosquito nets on every window and sliding door keep the bugs at bay, allowing open windows at night.

There is a ground floor covered terrace furnished with a round oak table and six oak padded "director" style chairs, and a spacious sun terrace on the top floor with four chairs and a small table.

The villa has 1 fully tiled bathroom with shower cubical (no bath) and 2 WCs for your partys use.

Sleeping: The villa comprises 3 bedrooms 1 double, 1 twin and a single with a pull out full size double bed. This gives room for up to 6 people. Bed linen and luxury towels are provided for your use. Each bed is of orthopaedic quality, including the pull out double: no bad backs here!

Entertainment: The villa has television, DVD and satellite with many UK and European stations.. The music system will play CDs, radio and has connections for MP3 players, and a slot for SD and MMC cards. The villa is also stocked with a wide variety of DVds for children and adults, a selection of CDs, books and games.

Eating & living: There is room for 6 in the living room and 6 on the dining area on the ground floor covered terrace.

To prepare food you will find a gas hob, an electric oven, a microwave, a large fridge & freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dishwasher, a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board.

Provided are cutlery, crockery, glassware (sufficient for 12 place settings), serving dishes and cooking utensils of a high standard. Small items include a large Bodum caffitiere, a citrus fruit juicer, chef quality kitchen knifes with sharpening steel and two "waiters friend" wine bottle openers. There is a bottled water dispenser in the kitchen, The bottled water man visits the site every day - a new 20 litre bottle costs about £(GBP)3.

Outside there is a Webber kettle barbecue.

For your peace of mind, there is a small safe. Each family sets its own unique code for their stay.

At the start of each season we stock the cupboards with dishwasher tablets, washing powder, washing up liquid, toilet rolls, nappy bags, bin bags, salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil & vinegar. These may run out during the season and are not guaranteed. We encourage a "leave some for the next man" attitude. If something runs out. we hope that the guest will replace whatever it is.

Sunbathing: There are 4 sun beds with comfortable cushions for sunbathing around the pool. There are four chairs and a small table on the roof top sun terrace. Dont forget your factor 30+

Optional Extras Please note that the welcome packs are offered by our very helpful local agent. If your flight allows you to travel via one of the many market shops, you can stock up on the way to the villa.
 

The villa is centrally located approximately 10 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes drive to the center of Turgurteis where you will find many restaurants, bars and shops. The walk along the beach from the villa to Turgutreis is lovely, and takes about 30 minutes.

Car Hire The cost of car hire is reasonable, approximately GPB25 per day. Maybe GBP300 for 14 days. If you like to keep your costs down the Dolmus (small taxi-cum-buses) are frequent and cheap. GBP1 will get you to most places on the peninsular.

The town of Turgutreis is situated at the furthest tip of the historic Bodrum Peninsula with fantastic sunsets overlooking a view of pretty islands on the horizon. Named after the famous admiral, Turgutreis is a stroll town in its own right and combines a compact town center with several long sandy beaches. Wind surfers favour this part of the coast, as the winds are generally stronger.

The Bodrum Peninsula is small and it is very easy to travel to all the other small towns. For those who are adventurous the area has an excellent bus service called dolmus. These are new reliable mini- buses and offer services all day to Gumusluk and Bodrum with connections to all other towns often for less than a pound.

Gumusluk, a favourite peninsula village, is close by. Its position on the site of the ancient city of Myndos has ensured that no large scale development has been allowed. Gumusluk is a fine place for snorkelling, in the calm waters of the sheltered bay. Various sunken ruins can be found here and there is a causeway, sometimes above water, sometimes below, to Rabbit Island where almost tame rabbits run around. To one side of the headland is a sandy beach with beach side restaurants and sun beds and a short walk through the little lanes with craft stalls and grocery shops will bring you to the other side where the famous fish restaurants, with their tempting displays of locally caught fish, are perched right on the shoreline. A small Byzantine church above the beach is now a cultural centre with a regular programme of concerts and exhibitions.

No other area on the Turkish Aegean coast provides the visitor with the opportunity to experience traditional Turkish life only a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of a modern tourist center.

One of the unique features of Bodrum as a holiday resort is the combination of daytime activities, tranquil bays, beaches & villages to enjoy and the Bodrum nightlife.
 

Easyjet commence flights to Bodrum in late April 2009. They are around a third cheaper than other airlines flying into Bodrum, with flights for GBP165 in June and GBP140 in October. EasyJets prices go up as the lower prices are allotted first.

Day Trips There are many good local firms offering day trips these are of course open to the independent traveler.

Ephesus is the best-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean, and perhaps the best place in the world to get the feeling for what life was like in Roman times. As a strategic coastal gateway to the Eastern World, this Ionian refuge grew to be the second largest city in the Roman Empire. Legend has it that the Virgin Mary, accompanied by St. Paul, came to Ephesus at the end of her life, circa 37-45 AD. In 1967 Pope Paul VI visited the site, where a chapel now stands, and confirmed the authenticity of the legend. Also the Basilica of St. John is located near Ephesus. St. John is said to have lived the last years of his life here and after his death, a shrine was located over his grave.

The villa is in a very quiet area. It has access to a shared west facing swimming pool, a west facing garden, a west facing patio area, a west facing balcony, panoramic views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The villa is right beside swimming, walking.

Close to the villa you will find a beach, sailing, water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, fishing, cycling, scuba diving, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the villa you will find climbing, horse riding, historic sites.

The nearby Mandlinci Office can assist you with trips car hire and currency exchange

There are 14 Turkish islands around the area as well as the Greek islands Kos and Kalimnos.

Caroline says: "This is an excellent place to stay with a fab pool and near Turgutreis without being TOO close. Villa is very well kitted out and the gardens and terrace are a delight. Hire a car to get the best out of the peninsula as there are many places to go see - but the dolmus [local buses] are fine otherwise. Must go - Gumusluk for the Fish restaurants Turgutreis on Sat for the market Bodrum for the castle with the marine archeology displays"
